Mangaluru: World Kidney Day was celebrated here at Deralakatte Yenepoya University on Wednesday, March 8. ACP Shruti N R inaugurated the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Chief guest Shruti said, “When I was quite young I was 74 kgs. I had only one thing in my mind- to lose weight. Later on, I learnt swimming and lost 8 kgs.” She advised everyone, saying, “Police officials become obese due to work load. So to maintain good health, eat lot of vegetables. Do not over eat and stress your stomach. Eat before 10 pm and eat less in the night. Do some exercises like breathing and Yoga which is good for health.”
Assistant professor Dr Mohammed who presided over the programme said that there were free facilities for the government employees and they should make the most use of it.
Professor of Urology, Dr Mujib Rahiman called upon everyone to do regular health checkups than wait for the ailments to get severe.
Dr Santhosh Pai, HoD, Nephrology spoke on the various activities taken up by the institution on the occasion of Kidney Day.
Surumi Farhaad, Director of Heera College of Engineering, Trivandrum who was the guest of honour on the occasion pledged to donate her organs.
Yenepoya University Registrar Dr Shrikumar Menon was present on the occasion.
