Vikas PU college observes international non-violence day

Mangaluru: Vikas Pre University College, Mangaluru celebrated the International Non-violence Day and birth anniversaries of both Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on October 2.

Addressing the gathering Dr. D. Shripathi Rao, Correspondent said that India secured its independence through non-violence while all other countries attained it through bloodshed. Further he added that it was Mahatma Gandhi who led India to freedom and Lal Bahadur Shastri was one of the prominent disciples of Gandhiji who helped him and the country in this noble struggle. He remarked that Gandhiji was respected not only in India but throughout the world.

Principal Prof. T. Rajaram Rao in his address said that Lal Bahadur Shastri, our second Prime Minister, gave us a slogan ‘Jai Jawaan Jai Kisan’ which is remembered by all Indians, especially by the agrarian community even today. He said that Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri are the two leaders who built a strong foundation of today’s India.
Gandhi’s favourite bhajans like ‘Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram’, and ‘Vaisnava Jana to tene kahiye’ were sung on the occasion.

Trustees Sri. J. Koragappa, Sri. Suraj Kumar Kallya, Dr. Ananth Prabhu G., Advisor of Vikas PU College and Sri. Parthasarathy Palemar, Coordinator, Vikas Group of Institutions were also present on the occasion. Mr. Ajith Rai, Lecturer in Kannada compered the function and also delivered a talk on the importance of the day. Mr. Ajay Karkera proposed the vote of thanks.
