Mangaluru: The valedictory ceremony of national level technical fest “TECHTHON 17” was organised at PA College of Engineering on February 21. The fest was jointly organised in association with Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) PACE Chapter.
Mohammed Nazir, Commissioner, Mangaluru City Corporation was the guest of honour. Addressing the gathering, Nazir said, “TECHTHON is a very good initiative by the institution to help the students in exhibiting their talents. Students from various colleges come here and participate in different competitions which helps them in building their personality. There are lot of opportunities for today’s youth to come forward and do something unique for the betterment of the society.” He called upon the students to give their ideas to make Mangaluru a smart city, adding, “Since Mangaluru has already been selected under smart city project, students can take part in the exercise by giving their ideas and solve the problems the city is facing.”
Dr Abdul Sharief, Principal PACE, addressing the gathering said, “To build one’s career, personality developement is important. Today’s world is competitive therefore extra curricular events are necessary. Classroom study must go hand in hand with skill development. Today, students who finish their studies are not getting jobs because they are not technically qualified hence not employable. So you must develop the right skills and work hard. Then no doubt, by 2020 India would surely become a developed country.”
The objective of TECHTHON, which is being conducted for the eighth consecutive year, is to provide a platform for the students of different technical background and knowledge to share their experience and learning. In Techthon 17, 18 events were conducted such as technical paper presentation, circuit rig up, web designing, 3D modelling, poster making, truss loading, quiz and many more individual and group events related to different branches of engineering and technology. The events tested the skills of participants in hardware, software, design, creativity, innovation, general knowledge and paper presentation. Over 100 participants from various engineering colleges took part in the fest.
Dr Abdul Sharief, Principal PACE, Abdulla Ibrahim, Executive Director and K M Haneef, Director (Administrations) PACE were guests on the occasion.
Dr Ramis M K, Vice Principal, Prof Sarfaraz Hashim J, Director (Academics), Dr A J Antony, Dean (Student Affairs), HoD of various departments, faculty members were present during the programme.
Prof Amjad Khan, Prof Divya Shetty, Prof Asif Raibag, Prof Mohammed Sirajuddin were the student coordinators of the event.
Prof Amjad Khan gave a brief report on the different events. Winners of various events were presented with trophies, cash prizes and certificates. Prof Asif Raibag welcomed the gathering, Aqif Ismail proposed a vote of thanks and Abdul Fatheh compered the programme.
