Mangaluru: The Muller Model United Nations began its fourth edition on the August 18 with the inaugural ceremony at Father Muller Medical College.
An academic simulation of the deliberations at the UN, the Muller MUN was the first of its kind in Mangalore as well as the first to be hosted by a medical college in India. It aims to provide a platform for building global social awareness and leadership skills among the college youth.
The Chief Guest of the event was Dr. Rose Veera D’Souza, Professor, Department of Political Science, St. Aloysius College. She lauded the initiative and enthusiasm exhibited by Father Muller Medical College in continually providing a forum for young minds to discuss issues of global importance and contribute to making the world a more beautiful place, in line with the aim of the World Youth Assembly 2017.
Rev. Fr. Richard Coelho, the Director of Father Muller Institutions presided over the function and delivered the presidential speech. He expressed the importance of conducting such events which would help the students and faculty.
The agenda for Day One was to discuss human rights violations around the world including refugee, immigrant and indigenous population rights. Day Two has the evaluation of the Paris Agreement and exploring alternatives to curb climate change.
