Mangaluru: The Department of Mental Health Nursing, Laxmi Memorial college of nursing observed the “World No Tobacco Day 2015” at the De addiction Centre, Fr Muller Medical College Hospital Mangalore to highlight the health risks associated with tobacco use and advocating for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption.
This year the theme of the day was ‘Stop illicit trade of tobacco products. Dr. Aruna Yadiyal, Associate Professor, Department of Psychiatry was the Chief Guest who motivated the patients to give up smoking and its products to lead a healthy life. Dr. Larissa Martha Sams, Principal LMCN presided over the function and spoke on the occasion. Mr. Shreepathi Bhatt, Counselor de-addiction centre, unveiled the theme and significance of the day. A session on Health hazards of smoking was delivered by Dr Sudhir Prabhu, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine at Fr Muller Medical College Hospital, Mangalore.
A short quiz by Mr. Shivakumara J enhanced group participation. A video show on the effects of smoking made the programme lively.
