Chennai: US Charge d’Affairs in India Kathleen Stephens Tuesday called on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and indicated that companies from her country would be very keen to participate in the Global Investors Meet planned by the state government.

According to a statement issued here by the Tamil Nadu government, Stephens said the principal commercial officers in the US embassy in New Delhi and the consulate here would be very happy to be involved in planning the event.

Stephens specifically mentioned that in future teams of senior officials and investors who normally visit only Delhi would be persuaded to also travel to Chennai and see for themselves the opportunities for greater economic relations in Tamil Nadu.

On the state government side projects were cited where there could be significant synergy between the US and Tamil Nadu. These include development of industrial parks, greater collaboration in provision of urban infrastructure and services like intelligent transport solutions, waste water management, desalination and sold waste management and others.
