Belagavi: The most awaited interim order of the Mahadayi tribunal on controversial water dispute is out. The petition filed by the state has been rejected.
Mohan Katharaki, Karnataka’s counsel in the water dispute case, spoke to media after the verdict and said, “Karnataka’s interim petition for using 7.65 tmc water has been rejected by the tribunal.” The Tribunal observed that other states are also presenting their case seeking water. Under such circumstances it was not possible to admit Karnataka’s plea.”However the final judgement is yet to come. I am sure the state will get justice,” he said.
Meanwhile, CM Siddaramaiah will be briefing media over Mahadayi tribunal verdict.
Earlier the tribunal headed by J N Panchal had reserved the order for Wednesday after concluding the hearing of the cases put forward by both Karnataka and Goa. While Goa had opposed the Kalasa Banduri project to divert the Mahadayi river water to Karnataka saying it could harm the ecologically sensitive Western Ghats, the state has argued it needs the Mahadayi water to meet the drinking water needs of its people.
The farmers plan to file a review petition in the Supreme Court for tribunal order.
