Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Thursday that the Cauvery water will be released only if the State receives sufficient rainfall and reservoirs are filled.
Speaking to media after meeting a farmers’ delegation from Tamil Nadu, the CM said that the State is facing severe drought due to poor monsoons for straight three years now. “At this juncture releasing Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu is near impossible. If rains catches up to the expected amount, then water can be released to Tamil Nadu,” he said.
Siddaramaiah said that he had conveyed the same to the farmers’ delegation from Tamil Nadu and hoped that they will understand the situation of farmers here in the State.
A delegation headed by Ramalingam, ex-MP, representing the farmers of Tamil Nadu, met Siddaramaiah at his residence on Thursday morning. They requested to release water immediately to save the standing Samba crops, which is spread across 9 acres on the Cauvery belt in Tamil Nadu.
