Bengaluru: Untill caste system prevails, there should be reservations, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah here on August 20.
Inaugurating 102nd birth anniversary of former CM D Devraj Urs and after conferring Devraj Urs Award to Lok Sabha opposition party leader and MP Mallikarjuna Kharge, the CM said that Devraj Urs is one of the unique and responsible politicians of Karnataka. When you work towards uplifting the under privileged and weaker sections of the society when you have power and opportunity, it is a great achievement,” he added.
B R Ambedkar believed that along with political freedom, one should have social and economic freedom and Devraj Urs’s governance was based on the same principle, he added.
Anti-social elements do not need equality. When there are superstitions and blind beliefs there will be discrimination. Devraj Urs worked for the betterment of those who had no place to live and he brought in Land Reforms act which helped thousands of people in Karnataka. Devraj Urs is responsible if a poor man could become politician, he said.
He also hailed Kharge for his contribution towards poor and downtrodden.
Devraj Urs award committe president and renowned writer Hampa Nagarajaiah said that it is indeed a proud moment to see Kharge who is the follower of Devraj Urs getting this award.
