Bengaluru: In a setback to Congress, K P Nanjundi, leader of Vishwakarma community and general secretary of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee announced his decision to quit the party and associate himself with the BJP with no pre-conditions.
Nanjundi, who was reportedly unhappy of unkept promises of making him an MLC by the Congress took no time in accepting BJP state president, B S Yeddyurappa’s invitation to join the BJP cadres. BSY, along with few other party leaders had visited Nanjundi at his residence on June 22 and they held discussions with him for nearly an hour.
Interestingly, his resignation comes after the state cabinet had recommended other names to fill the vacant seats in the Legislative Council.
Announcing his decision to join the BJP, Nanjundi who has had a 16 year association with the Congress said that party did nothing for the Vishwakarma community.
If rumors are to be believed Yeddyurappa is likely to depute Nanjundi to the post of BJP state vice president apart from offering to make him a MLC if BJP comes to power in the upcoming elections.
