Bengaluru: In a big embarrassment and also a headache, the accounts committee of the state legislative assembly directed the Bangalore University (BU) to recover Rs. 51.75 crores from various persons and departments, which were released without any records, violating the rules. The University has been directed to create bills and records to recover the money from the concerned.

According to the sources in the state higher education department, this audit report is pertaining to the financial years 1999-2000 and 2013-14. “In this period the University spent Rs.85.33 crores on various works. The bills submitted are only for Rs. 33.57 crores. There are no documents or records for the rest of the amount. Now the university authorities including those who are retired have been directed to funish details or face action,” informed sources in the state higher education department.

“It is highly impossible to retrieve old records or make follow up with the retired officers. Many officers who signed for the fund release are no more. It will be a big headache for the present officers,” informed an officer from the higher education.
