Bengaluru: The Yesvantpura police on Thursday night nabbed two persons for attempting sexual assault on a 19-year-old girl.

The police have identified the arrested persons as Fayu alias Fayaz alias Auto Fayu, 30 and Juber alias Juber Khan, 27.

“The other accused Sultan, 20, has escaped from the spot. The police have launched a manhunt to nab him,’’ Bengaluru Commissioner of Police T. Sunil Kumar told reporters here on Friday.

According to the police, the victim has come to Bengaluru along with her cousin brother Raju to visit their relatives in the city. They came to Yesvantpura Bus Station at around 12 pm to board a bus to their native.

“They are from Chellakere in Chitradurga district. They were going towards Yesvantpur railway station when the accused attempted sexual assault on her. Fayaz and Zuber Khan took Raju at a distance on the pretext of giving direction to go the railway station while Sultan took the girl to the nearby closed shop and tried to touch her inappropriately. She pushed him down and yelled for help,’’ the police commissioner said.

The police said the girl was brought to Yesvantpur police station by Asgar Pasha, an autorickshaw driver, who happened to come to the spot after hearing the victim’s scream for help.

“The victim narrated to the police how two of the accused took her cousin brother away when the incident happened. The autorickshaw driver and the victim helped the police to identify and nab the accused persons,’’ the police commissioner said.

The police said the third accused, who was lying on the road in an inebriated condition, managed to escape as soon as he noticed the police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Chethan Singh Rathore has appreciated the police for nabbing the accused within 30 minutes of the crime.

The Yesvantpur police have registered a case against the accused persons under the Sections of 363 (for kidnapping), 342 (wrongful confinement), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 354(A) (sexual harassment) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The police commissioner announced Rs 25,000 reward for the police team for nabbing the accused.
