Bengaluru: A traffic head constable was arrested on the charge of assaulting a Namma Metro security guard on Friday night. This comes barely a week after metro employees went on a strike protesting an assault on their colleagues by members of the Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF). According to senior police officers, the policeman was inebriated and off duty.
Head Constable G.H. Veeranna, posted in the Airport Traffic Police Station, was booked for assaulting a guard at the Hosahalli metro station on Friday night.
According to a Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) official, the head constable was drunk and was stopped by the guard when he attempted to board a train. Angry at being stopped, the constable attacked the guard. “A complaint was lodged by our employee at Vijayanagar police station,” the BMRCL official said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Bengaluru west M.N. Anucheth said that the constable has been on sick leave. “We will follow all due legal procedure, including disciplinary action, against the accused,” he added.
