Bengaluru: Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Tuesday remanded terror suspect Habib Mia in judicial custody for 14 days.

Habib Mia was arrested in a joint operation by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of the Bengaluru Central Crime Branch and the Tripura police in Agartala on March 17 and brought him to Bengaluru. He was accused in the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) attack case.

“Habib Mia was in police custody for 10 days. We handed him over to judicial custody after interrogating him. He confessed to helping Sabahuddin, the main accused in the attack on Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in 2005,’’ S Ravi, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) told reporters on Tuesday.

The IISc was attacked on December 28, 2005 when a convention was underway. A scientist was killed and five people injured as attackers lobbed hand grenades and opened fire at the gathering.

“Habib Mia told police of his meeting Sabahuddin at a mosque in Agartala for three days. Mia told that he received Rs 800 from Sabahuddin for helping him to cross into Bangladesh,’’ said Ravi.

Two weeks ago, the Tripura police received information about Mia and passed it on to the Bengaluru police. Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) S. Ravi assigned the ATS, attached to the CCB, to carry out the operation in Tripura in which Mia was arrested.
