Bengaluru: JD(S) dissident MLAs, who faced suspension from the party for cross voting during the last Rajya Sabha election, are likely to join Congress soon.

Speaking to reporters here after a meeting Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at his home-office ‘Krishna’ on Friday evening, N Cheluvarayaswamy said that the suspended MLAs have not approached JD(S) seeking ticket to contest the Assembly elections next year. However he has not yet confirmed if they will be joining Congress adding that all the seven suspended JD(S) legislators are together and they would jointly take an appropriate decision soon on joining other political party.

It is gathered that these 7 JD(S) dissidents are expected to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Vice-president Rahul Gandhi and show their willingness to join the Congress party. Reportedly they have demanded that all of them want Congress party ticket to contest the next Assembly election. However it is said that Congress is apprehensive about 2 seats and hence would like to allot only 5 seats. As per sources, Siddaramaiah promised them that all these 7 constituencies will get good grant in the near future, but asked them to meet Sonia and Rahul personally to show their willingness and explain their demands.

Cheluvarayaswamy was accompanied by Chamarajpet MLA Zameer Ahmed Khan and Pulakeshinagar MLA Akhanda Srinivas Murthy. He also revealed that NCP chief Sharad Pawar phoned Zameer Ahmed and spoke to him and hence the matter of joining any party is yet to be finalized.

One of the rebel MLAs, Gopalaiah, however, recently made peace with the JD(S) leadership by admitting that he had done a mistake by staging a rebellion. He arrived at the decision since it was highly unlikely for him to get a ticket to contest the next Assembly polls if he joined the Congress, sources in the JD(S) said.
