Bengaluru: Stung by the success of Indira Canteens, BJP is on the prowl to impede its progress, accused Bengaluru Mayor G Padmavathi, referring to allegations from certain quarters of BJP playing spoil sport in the establishment of the government eateries in Girinagar area of the metropolis.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has warned of stringent action against those posing obstacles to Indira Canteens, cautioned Mayor Padmavathi.

After holding a prolonged discussion about the teething problems, the government observed lapses by certain officials, who had failed to cooperate in the desired manner in taking forward capital’s ambitious food supply project for the poor, she observed. Some officials are involved in misleading the public about the quality of food served at the canteens and asked her staffers to rectify the existing flaws in the system and sought daily report to assess the ground situation periodically.

The next decision will be taken after assessing the canteen progress during the week, stated Padmavathi.

The BJP has been setting up blockades and preventing the canteen from taking final shape in Girinagar area and warned of tough action against elements with malicious intentions.

The situation has improved a little, after officials were issued proper guidelines and are now responding well, said mayor Padmavathi. They have been asked to keep check on breakfast, afternoon and night meal quality, she confirmed.

The BBMP has decided to install CCTV in all canteens to monitor the areas in and around Indira Canteens in order to prevent miscreants attempting to tarnish, cause damage.
