Bengaluru: State government is likely to cancel 25% seats in private schools for students from disadvantaged groups as per the provisions of the Right to Education (RTE) act from next academic year.

Considering huge amount released to the private schools in the reimbursement, the state government has decided to use the same amount for the development of the government schools. It can be recalled that in last five years the state government has released around Rs.800 crores to private schools in the name of reimbursement of the fee amount.

Speaking to reporters, state primary and secondary education minister Tanveer Sait informed that under the present system, state government it self is weakening the government schools by encouraging parents to send their kids to private schools and reimbursing the fee. “So we have decided to bring amendment to the RTE act and ensure that all the students join the government schools and still get best of the facilities,” he said.

It can be recalled that in Karnataka RTE quota was introduced in the year 2012 and every year more than 1 lakh students are getting the benefit of the scheme.
