Bengaluru: The Mahadevapura police have arrested six private taxi drivers on charges of abducting and robbing engineering and other professionals working in Whitefield, here.
The police have recovered gold valuables worth Rs. 27.7 lakh. According to the police, the arrested persons were allegedly involved in 16 cases. The accused focused mainly on Outer Ring Road in Mahadevapura and Whitefield.
According to the police, the arrested persons, posing as taxi drivers, used to approach techies waiting for transport back home after their night shifts. While one member would drive, two others would also be in the car. They would identify victims and offer to drop them home. The moment the person entered the car, they would hold them at knifepoint, take them to an isolated spot, rob them and drive off, said the police. The Mahadevapura police, who probed one of the cases, stumbled upon a car which the accused were using. On March 13, the police identified the car moving on Outer Ring Road, but failed to nab the suspects.
