Siddaramaiah writes to Modi on Karnataka’s move to seek modification of SC order

Bengaluru: The state will move an application before the Supreme Court on Monday seeking modification of its September 20 order on the Cauvery water dispute, stated Siddaramaiah in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Worried over Cauvery row, CM Siddaramaiah writes to Modi for help-1In the copies of the letter which were released to the press, Chief Minister has informed PM about the resolution passed by both the houses of the Legislature on Friday.

In the letter CM stated that the modification petition will seek change of schedule of Cauvery water release to Tamil Nadu. “The government has no intention to disregard any of the orders of the Supreme Court,” the letter states. The Supreme Court, in its interim order on September 20, had directed Karnataka to release 6,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu upto September 27.

The state legislature on Friday passed a resolution directing that the “state government should not draw water from the existing storage in the four reservoirs of the state, and save the water to meet the drinking water needs of the towns and villages in Cauvery basin and for Bengaluru.”
