Shantha Kumar case: Lokayukta pulls up state govt, BBMP

Bengaluru: State Lokayukta Justice Vishwanatha Shetty has issued a notice to the state government and the BBMP over the delay in action to release compensation to the family of Shantha Kumar, a civic worker who was washed away in flood water on May 20.

On May 20, night Shantha Kumar was washed away in JC nagar storm water drainage while he was trying to save the JCB that was submerging in the storm water. Even after four days of search, the police and fire brigade had failed to recover his body. Citing non-recovery of the dead body, BBMP has declined to release relief to his wife.

In the notice issued to the additional chief secretary, Government of Karnataka, principal secretary, urban development department, Commissioner, BBMP, the Lokayukta has directed officials to cite the reasons for non-release of relief amount to the family of Shantha Kumar.
