Second batch of conservancy workers to leave for Singapore

Bengaluru: The second batch of 39 conservancy workers are set to leave for Singapore on Tuesday as part of a study tour organised by the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA).

The exposure study tour for about 1,000 conservancy workers from Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and urban local bodies (ULB) was planned by Social Welfare Department a few months ago. The first batch of 38 conservancy workers with two officials went to Singapore on a four-day tour on July 4. The beneficiaries of this tour are divided into more than 10 batches and four officials have to accompany with each batch.

The objective of the tour is to have an exposure on Solid Waste Management (SWM) system and methodologies practiced in Singapore. It has set an example in the overall urban development and maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness in a short span of time.

The conservancy workers across the state were selected on the following terms and conditions such as regular service, age group (30 to 55 years), minimum five years of service, medical fit, punctuality and dedication to work, inquisitive and willingness to learn, flexible and cooperative at work, awards received for service rendered, appreciation by ward committee, recommended by municipal authority and approved by the Director of DMA. The batches were sent based on first come first serve basis.

City Managers Association, Karnataka (CMAK) has associated with World Toilet Organisaton (WTO) which is affiliated organization of United Nations in Singapore to give orientation and presentation on solid waste management, waste collection and treatment process, solid waste value chain from collection to treatment, collection and transportation methods and latest technologies of that country.

The entire logistics of processing the visa and travel arrangements were organized by MSIL.
