New Delhi/Bengaluru: The Supreme Court will pronounce the judgement against liquor baron Vijay Mallya in the court contempt case after he transferred Rs 256 crore to the children’s bank account in violation of the apex court order.

In the last hearing, the apex court had convicted him for contempt of court and summoned him to personally appear on July 10.

He is likely to be sentenced to a maximum of six months by the apex court.

Mallya received Rs 256 Crores from the British firm Diageo Plc in February 2016 and allegedly transferred the same to his children, instead of repaying loans that he owes to the banks.

On May 9, the Supreme Court, which had completed the March hearing of the petition filed by SBI-led banks, had declared Mallya guilty.

The court also upheld the charges against him in filing incomplete details of assets owned by him. However, Mallya dismissed the allegation.

Mallya, whose now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines allegedly owes more than Rs 9,000 crore to various banks, had fled India on March 2, 2016. The Government of India is making every effort to get businessman Mallya, now based in UK extradited to India.
