Police nab two, detect 29 chain snatching cases in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: The south division police have nabbed two habitual offenders for their alleged involvement in 29 chain snatching cases across the city, reported in the last four months.

The police said the two wanted to arrange money to develop an app containing information about schools across the city.

The police have identified as Zabiuddin Tabre, 30 and Arun Kumar, 36.

The police said the duo met in the prison and decided to lead lead a normal life after being released. Kumar planned to develop an app containing information about schools and needed money. The duo decided to rob a few persons to arrange funds.

As per plan, Kumar stole a bike parked in front of a mall in Malleshwaram and changed the registration number plate. Using the scooter, they robbed 29 persons across the city.

A special team of police formed by DCP south stumbled upon a CCTV footage of one of the chain snatching incidents, which helped the police to zero in on Tabrez and Arun Kumar.

The police have recovered gold chains weighing 1.2 kgs worth Rs 35 lakh from them.
