Bengaluru: Miscreants kidnapped the 19-year-old son of Vinayak Bapat, the managing director of Kirloskar Electric Company from Yelahanka on Tuesday evening. The boy was later abandoned on Wednesday morning by his abductors after they sensed that the police were on their trail.

Eshan Bapat, the victim, is a second year student in the Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology, Yelahanka. He resides at Malleshwaram.

According to police sources, Eshan was kidnapped from a nearby hotel in Yelahanka on August 23 evening, where he had stopped to have a snack. Eshan was forcibly pulled inside a car. His mother received a call from the abductors at around 8pm where she was told that her son was kidnapped. The abductors also warned her against informing the police and said they would call again on the next day.

Meanwhile, Eshan’s family and friends who knew about the kidnap tried calling his phone, but it was switched off. They informed a few senior police officers, who alerted DCP?(North-East) P S Harsha.

A police team traced the location of the phone as Whitefield. But when they reached the location, the signal went off. Police suspect that the miscreants must have either switched off the phone or removed the SIM card.
