Minister KJ George visits rain-affected areas

Bengaluru: Minister for Bangalore Development K J George on Saturday visited rain-affected parts of the city and directed the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials to take up ongoing storm water drain works on war footing.

The Minister, accompanied by Mayor G Padmavathi and BBMP officials including Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad, first visited Kumbargundi area on JC Road and instructed Chief Engineer (Storm Water Drain) to take up desilting work and construct a retaining wall to ensure free flow of rainwater. The minister later visited Shantinagara Bus Depot and instructed officials to take up a storm water drain work behind the depot for free flow of rainwater after inspecting the area at a cost of Rs 15 crore.

He has also visited the ST Bed area connected to Koramangala and Ejipura and reviewed the progress with regard to construction of a storm water drain. When the affected people approached the minister for compensation due to havoc caused by rains, the minister instructed the Mayor G Padmavathi and Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad to consider their demand within the legal framework.

At Anepalya, the minister reviewed construction of a storm water drain bridge. He also reviewed the ongoing storm water drain work in progress in Avani Sringeri in Bommanahalli Assembly Constituency. In Yediyur, he instructed officials to take up construction of a new retaining wall at a cost of Rs 3 crore as the 45-year-old wall had collapsed due to recent rains.

The minister has exhorted the officials to accord top priority to civil works and warned strict action against engineers who failed to complete the sanctioned works before December 31.
