Bengaluru: The state-owned Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has decided to provide clean and pure drinking water in all its buses and bus stations by setting up own water bottling plant.

Disclosing the information, KSRTC Managing Director Rajender Kumar Kataria said, “Branded bottled water will be made available at all bus stations and buses soon. KSRTC which spends Rs 5-6 Crores for procuring 1 Crore litres of water annually proposes to set up distribution outlets at all bus stations through public-private participation.”

The bottles are likely to be priced at around Rs 10 per litre in line with “Amma” water bottles available in Tamilnadu and the state-run corporation has all necessary infrastructure in terms of land and resources in all the districts of the state to implement the proposal, Kataria confirmed.

The corporation plans to save money by setting up its own bottling plant and two rounds of negotiations have been completed to implement the project.

Water dispensing machines will also be setup at all bus-stations through private participation where passengers will have access to pure drinking water, free of cost, Rajendra Kataria clarified.
