Bengaluru: With just a year to go for state assembly elections political parties have begun campaigning in full gear. Probably agreeing with the old saying, ‘A way to man’s heart is through his stomach’ the JD(S) is mulling opening its own canteens across Bengaluru which will be operational from this month end.
The canteens will be named as Namma Appaji Canteen after JD(S) Supremo HD Deve Gowda, who is popularly known as ‘Appaji’ among party members.
The move comes in the backdrop of the Congress government announcing its ambitious Indira Canteens in the state capital from August 15 onwards. However the project is facing a few teething problems, including site issues and it remains to be seen if the project takes off on schedule.
Meanwhile it is gathered the JD(S) which is planning to open canteens in 28 Assembly constituencies initially will embark on its pilot project with setting up of a canteen in Hanumathanagar by July 28 and later expand it across various districts in Karnataka.
These canteens will be open from 7.30 am to 2.30 pm and will be priced similar to Indira Canteens. However, if the canteen receives good response it may be open during night hours too, informed a party person.
