Bengaluru: A group comprising court officials, advocates and animal rights activists was attacked by a mob of over 100 persons on Tuesday when it was on an inspection of illegal slaughterhouses. The incident took place despite the group being accompanied by a team of policemen.

The members of the group were advocates H.V. Harish and D.P. Prasanna, public prosecutor S. Rachiah, advocate Pavan Chandra Shetty, and volunteers Kavitha Jain and Joshine Anthony. They were on an inspection of four places on the High Court’s directions. One of the places was a two-wheeler garage at D.B. Halli in Vidyaranyapura near Yelahanka New Town. They were not entertained and were attacked by a mob that also damaged vehicles. Additional police personnel were deployed to contain the situation.

Additional Commissioner (East) Seemanth Kumar Singh said two police vehicles were damaged. The police have registered a case based on a complaint by a volunteer of an NGO who was part of the group that was attacked by the mob.
