Former DGP Rao alleges mental agony, to sue Roopa for Rs 50 crore damages

Bengaluru: Former DGP (Prisons) H Satyanarayana Rao is mulling to file a defamatory suit against former DIG of Prisons, Roopa Moudgil seeking Rs 50 crore in damages if she fails to tender an apology to him within the next three days.

Rao, who had been accused of extending VIP treatment to the jailed AIADMK chief Sasikala in lieu of money in Roopa’s report on irregularities in the Parappana Agrahara prison it is gathered will be filing a civil and criminal case against the former DIG seeking Rs 50 crores in damages.

In her report, Roopa had mentioned that Sasikala enjoyed a host of facilities at the prison including a separate kitchen. Following the furore that her explosive report created Roopa was transferred and Satyanarayana Rao was sent on leave.

Mentioning that her report has caused him a lot of mental agony, Rao who is due to retire on July 31 wondered why Roopa had not produced any evidence to support her allegations. He also quizzed why she had not clicked the so called special kitchen as claimed by her adding that such facility never existed.

Meanwhile, the state government has initiated a high-level enquiry in the case
