Bengaluru: A five-year-old girl died after being bitten by a snake while she was sleeping in her house in M.S. Palya on Nandidurga Road in the early hours of Friday.

The victim, Sahana, started screaming in the middle of the night writhing in pain. The parents woke up and found that her fingers were bleeding.

Thinking that it could be a bug bite, the family rushed Sahana to a near-by private hospital. But, she started frothing at the mouth and her body turned blue. The doctors who examined Sahana declared her as brought dead. The bite is suspected to be from a cobra.

The family members rushed back home and found the snake hiding in a corner of the house. They killed the snake and burnt it outside the house.

The family said that the snake could have crawled into the house from the drainage chamber from a vacant site close to their house.
