Bengaluru: Following a controversial remark passed by the Karnataka State Women’s Development Corporation Chairperson Bharati Shankar at an event on women safety, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee working president Dinesh Gundurao on Saturday said that an explanation will be sought from her.
Bharathi Shankar had said that it is in parties that women get raped and not in Jathre festivals. This statement has stoked a controversy.
“I do not agree with her statement completely. The party will surely seek an explanation from her in order to know in what context she has spoken in this manner,” Rao was quoted as speaking to DCHL.
Bharathi Shankar was responding to a question by an audience on whether women’s empowerment was equal to women’s safety, during the launch of ‘A Billion Eyes’ campaign that urges bystanders to intervene if they notice any woman being harassed. The event was organised by B.Pac and Bangalore City police.
