Bengaluru: A 21-year-old engineering student, allegedly upset over his college denying him hall ticket to appear for the upcoming semester exam owing to shortage of attendance, committed suicide by hanging himself in his flat in southeast Bengaluru’s Channasandra on Tuesday.

The police have identified the victim as Lokesh Eeranna, 24, a first year aeronautical engineering students of MV College of Engineering.

The Kadugodi police have lodged a case under IPC’s Section 306 (abetment to suicide) against the management of MVJ College of Engineering.

The police said Lokesh was among several students who had gone on a hunger strike from June 1 to June 3 after the college had issued a list of 69 students with attendance shortage and had told them they won’t be allowed to sit for the July exam.

“Lokesh returned to his service apartment and hanged himself in his bedroom,” the police said. He shared the room with seven others who he told that he wanted to bathe, but locked himself up in the room. He was found hanging when his friends broke open the door.

Lokesh’s father Eeranna, who rushed to Bengaluru early Wednesday , lodged a complaint accusing the college management of abetting his son’s suicide. Eeranna said Lokesh had called him around 11am on Tuesday to tell that the college management had refused to issue him hall ticket for the semester exam.
