Bengaluru: Congress on Tuesday demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi ask Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Amit Shah to quit or remove him to ensure free and fair inquiry into the business of Temple Enterprise Private Limited owned by Shah’s wife, son and daughter-in-law.

“National interest and people of the country demand a thorough and independent investigation into the truth of all the facts related to the Temple Enterprises Private Limited,’’ All India Congress Committee Communications & Media Chairman Ranadeep Singh Surjewala told reporters here.

Demanding the prime minister to answer 10 queries pertaining to the business deals of Temple Enterprise Private Limited, Surjewala questioned how did the business of the company owned by Amit Shah’s wife, son and daughter-in-law increase 16,000 times in one year?

“What is the magic wand by which a company earning a surplus of mere Rs 18.8 lakh in 10 years from 2004-14 and making a loss in two successive years (2012-13 and 20130-14) proceeds to increase its turnover 16,000 times within a year of formation of BJP government?’’ he asks.

He said up till the year 2013-14, total borrowings of the company were mere Rs 1.3 crore. “In what circumstances and based on what criteria did the borrowings increase by 400 times within a year of formation of BJP government?’’ he asks.

Stating that a number of national presidents of BJP have faced allegations of suspicious conduct and financial irregularities in the past, he said three national president of BJP had to quit the post on account of such accusations.

“After the Jain hawala case, Lal Krishna Advani not only resigned from the post of BJP president but also submitted himself to the investigation and decided not to accept any post until the conclusion of the case by courts. In Tehelka scam, BJP national president Bangaru Laxman resigned after getting caught accepting money in BJP’s national headquarters. Nitin Gadkari had resigned from the post of BJP president the moment an allegation was levelled against him,’’ he said.

Answering a query BJP’s allegations against Robert Vadra’s land dealings, the AICC Communications and Media Chairman said BJP governments at the Centre and in Rajasthan and Haryana failed to order a probe into Vadra’s alleged land dealings.

“I want to ask BJP leader why their governments failed to prove the allegations against Vadra. We have been demanding the BJP governments to order a probe but in vain. There is no truth in their allegations,’’ he said.

On Amit Shah’s statement stating that his son would have committed a mistake but he has no connection with the government, he wanted to know how Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDAL) has extended a loan of Rs 10.35 crore to Kusum Finserve owned Jay Shah.

“People want to know as to under what norms/criteria, did the ministry of power provide a special loan to a company, whose primary business was trading in shares and export/import of agro products and which did not have iota of experience of electricity production or related business?’’ he asked.
