Bengaluru: Media is often blamed of sensationalising news.On Monday, news flashed by many news channels in a desperate bid to sensationalise the coverage of communal unrest in coastal Karnataka could have fuelled further violence.

Some news channels callously flashed news that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered the police department to arrest RSS head honcho Dr Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat.

The breaking news that was flashed minutes after Chief Minister S Siddaramaiah concluded his review meeting with IPS officers from across the state via video conference read that the CM has directed police to arrest RSS leader Dr. Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat. This could have further created problem in communal torn belts of Dakshina Kannada considering the popularity that Bhat has. However, on Tuesday, a social media status updated by media advisor to CM Dinesh Amminmattu’s has a different story to tell.

In his social media status, Dinesh Amminamattu has expressed his disappoint over the way in which few news channels went on telecasting breaking news. “Few channels even held debate. This may send wrong signals,” he stated in his social media status. He questioned the media stand on misleading the people when situation is tensed in the coastal Karnataka.

According to the reliable sources, Chief Minister didn’t name any particular leader in the meeting. “His concern was only about deteriorating law and order situation in coastal Karnataka,” said a source.

Tension prevailed in pockets of Dakshina Kannada district after continuous episodes of stabbing of youth from two communities.
