CID likely to probe another rape case against seer

Bengaluru: A 24 year old woman filed a complaint against Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swami, the seer of Sri Ramachandrapura Math alleging that he had raped her in 2006 when she was staying in the math’s hostel in Hosanagar on Saturday.

The complaint filed by the woman hailing from Sirsi in Uttara Kannada district at Girninagar police station stated that she was sexually assaulted several times between 2006 and 2012.

The police officials said that this case too will be handed over to CID since the CID has already probed a case filed against the seer last year by Ram Katha singer Premalatha which is in its final stages.

“As Ram Katha singer Premalatha’s case was handed over to the CID and it has completed the probe, it is likely that even the case filed on Saturday would be handed over to the CID. As the CID officials have already gathered substantial information during the probe, it would be easy for them to probe this case too,” an official said.

“CID officials had questioned the 24 year old woman a few times as part of the probe. Not only her, the staff of all the branches of the Math were questioned by the CID,” the official added.

The woman was subjected to medical test at KIMS Hospital on Sunday and has been asked to come for another round of tests on Monday. The police have already recorded her statement and would also issue notice to the seer directing him to appear before the investigators, the police said.
