Bengaluru: Minister for Animal Husbandry, A Manju on Thursday said that Brucellosis disease could be treated and there is no need to kill the cows affected with such disease.
Speaking with media persons here on Thursday, Minister Manju said the doctors have submitted a report on the condition of the cows affected with Brucellosis. “A 11-member expert team visited Rakshith farm near Kolar. They have examined 915 cows at the farm. The team found that Brucellosis spread to the cows due to the virus and it can be cured. The milk of the cows can be consumed after boiling it”, the minister said.
He said the measures were taken to quarantine the affected cows since the virus can spread to other cows. “Doctor’s certificate is mandatory while bringing cows from other states to Karnataka. The animal husbandry ministry has not directed Rakshith farm to kill the affected cows through euthanasia method (mercy killing)”, the minister said.
It may be recalled that animal husbandry department staffs were sent to Rakshit Farm, situated near Janganahalli in Kolar taluk, to check the health of cows recently. The staffs, including veterinary doctors, visited the farm and collected blood samples of the cows. The farm is owned by MLA Varthur Prakash.
