Bengaluru: A Bengaluru-based author Anvita Bajpai has accused bestselling author Chetan Bhagat of plagiarism for his new book ‘One Indian Girl’. However Bhagat has denied the charges.
Bajpai, who is also an alumnus of IIT and IIM like Bhagat, in her facebook post said, “I had filed an original suit seeking a permanent injunction restraining Chetan Bhagat and the publisher from selling ‘One Indian Girl’ and also sought damages worth Rs. 1 lakh. The court has granted a temporary injunction restricting the sales.”
She further said that the characters, places and emotional flow have been copied by Bhagat in his new book from her book titled ‘Life, Odds and Ends’. In the post she further says that she had gifted her book to Bhagat in 2014 during a book fest in Bengaluru.
However, Bhagat refuting all the charges levelled against him by the writer said, “This is deeply unfortunate. This is, for one, an absolute surprise for me as I have never read any of this author’s works. My stories are always original – including ‘One Indian Girl’ – and it is unthinkable for me to do anything like what is suggested.”
According to reports, Bhagat’s publisher’s legal team will soon take necessary action in this regard. Rupa Publications, Bhagat’s publisher refused to comment on the entire issue.
