Bengaluru: The number of motor vehicle theft cases has been increased to 5,755 during 2016 as against 5,345 cases in 2015 and the Bengaluru police, apart from utter failure in anticipating violence in three unscheduled events such as Cauvery water dispute, garment factory workers and farmers protest, failed to detect the number of motor vehicles theft cases. N S Megharikh submits report on Amnesty International India event to DG&IGP Om Prakash-1Speaking with media persons here, Bengaluru Commissioner of Police N S Megharikh said the police have done a commendable job in detecting crime despite the shortage of staffs. “We are satisfied with the detection of murder cases and also handling the situation during the unscheduled events in Bengaluru. There were many challenges during the year but we managed scheduled as well as unscheduled events. We were able to handle police protest during the year,’’ Megharikh said.

The Commissioner of Police said adding more Hoysala vehicles was one of the great achievements of the police department. “I know that around 20 Hoysala vehicles have been equipped with mobile data terminal for better communication to the Police Command Centre directly. A Command Centre located at the Police Commissioner Office monitors the newly inducted Hoysala vehicles. I am aware that around 20 Hoysala vehicles are off the road daily due to the shortage of manpower. I am confident of filling up vacancies soon,’’ the Commissioner of Police said.

With this initiative, people could file complaints about their lost articles online and download the lost report online,’’ he said.
