Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Council on Saturday passed a resolution to form a committee for regulation of trade licences.
Many corporators during the BBMP Council meet felt that the recent High Court order seeking all commercial establishments in residential areas to be shut down had put several citizens to hardship. “They have sought formation of a committee through which their sentiments can be conveyed to the government,” said BBMP Commissioner N. Manjunath Prasad.
It may be recalled that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had alleged a mismatch between the number of Bescom connections given to commercial establishments and trade licences issued by the BBMP.
The BBMP Commissioner said that the AAP had not taken into account zonal regulations while making its claim. “As per zonal regulations, if someone puts up a shop in a residential area, we cannot give them a licence. If we give licence to everybody, all residential areas in Bengaluru will become commercial areas,” he added.
