Bengaluru: The final tally of recently concluded APMC elections is now out. Contrary to the claims made by the opposition leaders, results again prove that Congress party is still enjoying the support of agrarian class which is facing the third drought period in the last five years. As per the result analysis more than half of the APMCs are won by Congress party.
According to the final tally of results, elections were conducted for 121 APMCs across the state. Out of these 121 APMCs ruling Congressparty has won 62 APMCs with full majority followed by BJP which has clinched majority in 35 APMCs. JDS which has lost momentum due to the recent dissident activities has won just 14 APMCs. In 9 APMCs no party has won majority of seats creating a hung situation.
According to the result analysis, JDS has won more seats only in Hassan and Mandya districts which are known as the strong Vokkaliga belts of the state. In both the districts, the party has swiped all the APMCs. In districts like Vijayapura, Chikkaballapura, Chitradurga and Kalaburgi, Congress has won all the APMCs. BJP has secured majority in Lingayat dominated districts including Dharwad, Yadgir, Bagalkot, Belagavi, Haveri besides Udupi, Chikkamagaluru and Kodagu.
