Bengaluru: A major train accident was averted near Cantonment railway station on Tuesday due to the timely detection of a fracture in the rail tracks by the patrolling Railway Protection Force constables.
Constables R.S. Sando, Chandramani and head constable Thirumalesh noticed the fracture at around 8.50 am and immediately alerted the authorities.
Railway personnel arrived at the spot and fixed the fracture within half an hour.
Meanwhile TN 56507 (Marikuppam Passenger) had arrived at the Cantonment station and the train was stopped for over half-an-hour to allow the engineering department to address to the problem.
Senior railway officials recognised the timely action taken by the patrolling constables. “A K Gupta, general manager of South Western Railway, announced Rs 5,000 cash award to these RPF staff for their commendable work,” the release added.
