After BJP loss in Delhi polls, CM BSY has upper-hand in cabinet expansion

Bengaluru: The results of the Delhi assembly polls may strengthen Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa’s bargaining position with BJP national leaders regarding the expansion of his cabinet.

After facing a huge defeat in the Delhi elections, it is speculated that the position of BJP leaders such as BL Santosh has weakened.

CM Yediyurappa is all set to visit the capital next week in order to finalise the list of new ministers who will occupy the six remaining cabinet berths. Given BJP’s loss in the Delhi elections, Yediyurappa can strike a harder bargain.

A close associate of BSY informed that if BJP had won Delhi polls, it would have made BL Santosh’s position stronger within the party.

“But now Santosh, who was expecting a miracle, failed to achieve what he wanted. This means, BSY will be safe for a few more months,” he said.

“Back to back defeats in state assembly elections has demoralized the party’s national leaders. At this juncture, they may not want to create any problem for BSY. This means, he can take decisions of his own,” he said.

“Six berths are now vacant. Post-Delhi results, now it is sure that BSY will have a final say in the matter,” he added.
