Bengaluru: The Karnataka state government has sent its first batch of doctors to earthquake-hit Nepal. A group of 10 doctors have left Bengaluru with 15 KG of medicines; they took off on Monday April 27.

Private and government hospitals have been chosen by the state government to help out the Nepal government. The government will send a second batch to Nepal once the first batch sends its report.

Explaining the need for sending the doctors’ team to Nepal, Secretary for Disaster Management Ritesh Kumar Singh said, “Several people have been injured and Nepalese authorities are facing acute shortage of doctors. Once the first batch lands and start assisting the local authorities, we shall take a decision on sending another team. The doctors have been chosen from both government and private sectors,” says reports.

Details of the Doctors: Dr Srinivasan, Dr Manjunath (KC General Hospital), Dr Rajesh (Jayanagar Government Hospital), Dr Kiran Kumar (Jayanagar Government Hospital), Dr Asha (Konena Agrahara Pratamik Arogya Kendra), Dr Jayanti (Ganigarapete Pratamik Arogya Kendra), Dr Honne Gowda (President, Indian Medical Association Karnataka State Branch), Dr Vanikori (Vice-President, Indian Medical Association Karnataka State Branch), Dr Nirmala (Member of Indian Medical Association Karnataka State Branch), Dr Nagesh (Member of Indian Medical Association Karnataka State Branch). Apart from these doctors, state officers Pankaj Kr Pandey (9900095440) and Umesh Kumar (9480800029) have also been sent to Nepal to carry out the rescue operation.

Reportedly, around 330 people from the state were stuck in Nepal, of which 150 have already been rescued. About 90 people have been placed at Karnataka Bhavan in New Delhi and arrangements have been made to bring them back to the state through trains and flights.
