Bengaluru: After sweating it out under the blazing sun for the past few days, Bengalureans were in for a pleasant surprise on Saturday with a light drizzle in the city.

The rainfall that started in the evening continued till night in areas such as Indiranagar, MG Road and eastern parts of the City. Bengaluru received 0.1 mm of rainfall, while HAL Airport received 2.4 mm of rain till 8.30 pm. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in the City were 32.6 and 20.8 degree Celsius, respectively, on Sunday.

“There was an upper air cyclonic circulation over Comorin area on Saturday. On Sunday, the circulation moved westwards and became unimportant. But under the influence of an easterly wave, South Interior Karnataka received moderate rain. Under upper air Westerly trough, the Southern and Northern parts of the State will get moderate rain for two days,” said an official from Indian Metrological Department (IMD).

Officials from the IMD said that last year on February 27 and 28, the City received similar thundershowers.

“It is an unexpected phenomenon as it is not rainy season. The temperature, both minimum and maximum, is above normal in the last two days in Bengaluru,” the officials said.

IMD has forecast partly cloudy skies for the next two days accompanied by rain or thundershowers in some areas of the City.

No complaints of tree fall or waterlogging were reported by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike officials.
