Bangalore: Hours after he got engaged, a case of rape and cheating was filed against Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda’s son, Karthik late on Wednesday night. The complainant, a model and actor in regional films, claims to be his wife.
“She has filed a complaint in RT Nagar police station against Karthik Gowda, Sadananda Gowda’s son, for allegedly raping and cheating her,” said Bangalore Police Commissioner MN Reddi.
Addind to the deatils he said, We booked Karthik Gowda under IPC Sections 376 (rape) and 420 (cheating) after the small time actor Maithreyi Gowda lodged a complaint accusing him of having raped her besides cheating her.
Maithreyi Gowda was sent to Ambedkar Medical College for Venereal Disease Research Laboratory (VDRL) Test. If the test result is proved to be positive, then Karthik will also be subjected for VDRL Test which will confirm if the two had physical relationship, said the police officer.
The police are expected to arrest Gowda soon, which is mandatory as per the revised law, she referred Karthik as her husband in the complaint.
Maithreyi approached the RT Nagar police along with her advocate Akash and lodged a three-page complaint.
She claimed in the complaint that one of her friends, Kushal, introduced Karthik to her at a Coffee Day at Sanjayanagar on May 8, 2014. Later, they became friends and started an affair. They got married at his residence in Mangalore on June 5, 2014, she claimed.
Karthik assured Maithreyi of marrying her and entered into a physical relationship. He then cheated her later by distancing himself and getting engaged to another girl, she claimed.
Before the complaint was filed, the minister said he suspected “a big conspiracy”. “I feel hurt. My life is an open book. I will not lie or cheat public. This is kind of blackmail,” he said.
Denying the allegations, Karthik said, “My father is a respectable man. Why should I spoil it?”
Earlier in the day, the woman had given interviews to local television channels, claiming she had met Karthik through a common friend. “How can he (Karthik) get engaged to another girl when he is already married to me?” she had said.
Karthik, she alleged, had even told her that he would convince her parents to accept the marriage.
