Bengaluru: Nearly a year after bank manager Jyothi Uday (44) was attacked in an ATM kiosk in NR Square, the assailant is yet to be nabbed. City Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi on Saturday said that efforts to nab the attacker would be reenergised.

Mr. Reddi said that he would consider forming another special team to trace the assailant. As the attacker is from another State, the commissioner said that co-operation of the local police and public is crucial.

The attack on Ms. Uday had taken place around 7 a.m. on November 19 last year when she had gone to the Corporation Bank ATM near Corporation Circle, a stone’s throw away from Ulsoor Gate Police station. She is employed with the service branch of Corporation Bank on Mission Road and had stopped at the ATM on the way to work.

The CCTV camera inside the kiosk had captured visuals of the assailant threatening her with a machete and telling her to withdraw cash. He had struck her on the head and nose. He had fled with her bag after downing the shutter so that no one would find out about the attack.

It was more than two hours before some passersby heard moans from within. Upon noticing bloodstains, they opened the shutter to find Ms. Uday lying nearly unconscious on the floor. The CCTV camera footage had been circulated to help trace the assailant.
