Bengaluru: Karnataka High Court on Wednesday formed a special division bench to hear the appeal of Raghaveshwara Swamiji of Ramachandrapur Mutt – who has been facing rape charges against him by his devotee.
In the past, five judges of the High Court had recused themselves from hearing the case in connection to the rape charges against the seer.
The newly formed bench of Justice Anand Byrareddy and Justice N. Anand will hear the case at 2.30pm on Thursday.
Earlier, Justice Pavan Kumar B. Bhajanthri, H.G Ramesh, K.N Phaneedra, Rammohan Reddy and N. Kumar backed out from the case.
Premalata Shastri, a devotee had filed a rape case against Raghaveshwara Swamiji, while she was serving as a singer in the mutt. Later, she accused the seer of rape. Subsequently, the seer had sought the cancellation of rape charges against him. The case is now before the special division bench.
