Bangalore: In a pre-dawn move, the city police have decided to round up all rowdy elements in the city to thwart any untoward incident during the bundh on Thursday July 31, called by pro-Kannada organizations against the rising rape incidents in the city and the state.

Police commissioner MN Reddy has also ordered the police officers to keep watch on elements who are involved in creating trouble in the city neighborhood; the police have already arrested 353 miscreants with criminal records across the city.

“Those involved in petty cases, simple assault over trivia, men who pose as real estate agents and, money lenders and other unwanted elements who are threatening to create law and order troubles in the city,” said a police source revealing the contents of a meeting with all officers to discuss the Thursday’s security arrangements.

MN Reddy informed that the entire police force in the city will be deployed on August 31, in view of the bundh call given by pro-Kannada activists against the increasing rape incidents in the state besides the row over the signboard in Marathi in a bordering Belgaum.

As for the total closure on Thursday he said, the area has been divided into four sectors with each sector having an ASI and SI.  The Police personnel will also be deployed according to requirement in these four sectors.

Pro-Kannada activists who staged a protest on Monday here had claimed that the bundh will also cover the recent controversy of MES attempt to re-introduce a Marathi signboard in a village of Belgaum district citing that the area belonged to Maharashtra, even after the court proclaiming it under Karnataka.

Reddy said that the city police will also hold peace committee meeting in all the police stations, and has plans to deploy two companies of rapid action force (RAF) of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

“The city armed reserve police (CAR) and Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) will also be stationed at strategic points to thwart any untoward incidents. Services of nearly 500 homeguards will also be made available for security arrangements, he added.

Meanwhile the pro-Kannada organizations have been protesting at the town hall, pressing their to demand to take stern action against the rapisit, while the cops were busy dispersing the crowd

On the other hand, the “Namma Metro”, has not been affected by the bundh, but the numbers of passengers are very few. Malls and shops have been shut down and are supporting the bundh. Some of the regulating  BMTC buses were also attacked by miscreant.
