‘Kiss of love’ organiser gets threats of sexual violence in FB page

Bengaluru: The Facebook page of the woman behind the ‘Kiss of Love’ campaign has been inundated with threats of sexual violence. Sources say that it might force her to postpone the public protest against moral policing in the city, on November 30.

But the organizers of ‘Kiss of Love’ decided to break their silence against the hate messages flooding on their Facebook page even though Ms Rachita Tarneja, 23 refused to corroborate speculation that she was being threatened with violence.

The organisers posted a message saying: ‘We condemn the open threats of violence and sexual harassment directed against Rachita Taneja. As concerned citizens of a democracy, we are forming a new committee to organize the ‘Kiss Of Love’ event.All future updates will be available on this page that we are now administering.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has also asked the Home Minister to be ‘cautious’ while giving permission to hold this event next week. BJP has decided to approach the Governor to put a stop to the controversial “Kiss of Love,” fest in the city. Former CM Jagadish Shettar on Friday said that events like Kiss of love are against Indian culture. Even the police are waiting for decision taken by home minister after CM Siddaramaiah asked Home minister to take a final call on this matter only after thinking the impact would have on the government.

CM is worried that allowing for such an event would draw criticism against the government, which was embarrassed due to rape in schools recently. Even Minister Umashree had written to the home minister opposing the event. Even the Transport and Bengaluru in-charge minister Ramalinga Reddy joined issue with the Kiss of Love  movement on Friday by saying the event was against Indian culture. Speaking to reporters at the KPCC office, he said such events are against morals and there were other ways like Gandhian way of protesting against moral policing .

DCP (Central) Sandeep Patil rubbished rumours that the police have not given any permission to hold Kiss of love event. He said that the police were reviewing the situation for the event to be held on November 30.
