Bangalore :A 38-year-old woman, a software engineer by profession, was robbed by two persons at knife point at her home in the Srinidhi Layout near Rajanukunte on the outskirts of Bangalore on Wednesday night.

The techie identified as Tejaswini Bhat was alone when the robbers forcibly gained entry into her newly-constructed house.

The duo robbed gold jewellery and Rs 27,000 cash from the victim’s house.

One of the robbers used the victim’s car to go to a nearby ATM kiosk to withdraw Rs 25,000 with her debit card. The duo returned the card and the car after withdrawing money from the ATM.

The Rajanakunte police said that the victim was employed at a software firm at the Manyata Tech Park. She was staying alone at the Srinidhi Layout house over the past nine months after she built the brand new house. Her parents who used to live with her were away in their home town when the robbery took place.

Police said the two robbers gained entry to Tejaswini’s house at around 7.30 pm shortly after she had returned home from work. Initially Tejaswini tried to fight back against the robbers by biting them but later gave up after they threatened her with a knife.

With the house being isolated and having no neighbours nearby in the newly developed layout in the Adde Vishwanathapur village the techie sought to co-operate with the attackers, police said. The victim asked the robbers to take whatever they want without harming her.
She voluntarily gave a gold chain, a pair of ear rings and also three other rings apart from Rs 2,000 in cash. The robbers however asked for more money claiming they were in a dire situation. They claimed they would even settle for a cheque, police said. The victim offered her debit card and one of the robbers drove to a nearby ATM in the techie’s car to withdraw money while the other stayed at the house with the victim.

The victim informed the local police soon after the robbers fled the scene after withdrawing money from the ATM. The deputy commissioner of police (Doddaballapur sub-Division) T Konappa Reddy, Circle Inspector V Shivareddy and Rajanukunte sub-inspector SLR Reddy rushed to the scene. The police have registered a case of robbery based on the complaint lodged by the techie.

Police investigations have revealed that the miscreants withdrew money from a Citi Bank ATM kiosk in Rajanukunte. The police have collected CCTV footage of the man who withdrew money from the ATM with Tejaswini’s debit card.
